Sometimes, I'll walk outside in the morning and think, "Wow, today would be a great day for preaching!" After 6 years these thoughts still appear unbidden and I chuckle at how far I've come since then.

Do you ever fear that they will kill you?
by NYer Girl ini've heard the jws referred to on this site mostly as a cult.
as such, am i the only one who fears that one day the society will tell them to eliminate all of us who have been deemed apostates?
i can think of several of my old "friends" who would not hesitate to take me out.

There are a lot of Watchtower mandates that are taken to the extreme by the elders and R & F of the congregations, and I always wondered if maybe they might not take it too literally if they were told to protect themselves against us. And no, it's not something that I fantasize about and I don't need medical help. I just know that when I was a teenager, I would sometimes discuss with my fellow JW teens what Armageddon would be like. Would we be asked to take part? Of course, being the good, brainwashed JWs that we were, we swore to stay loyal and carry out God's command, whatever it may be. But when "God's command" really comes from men, it can be a very dangerous thing.

I was a witness for 20 years, including my childhood and became a regular pioneer. The congregation that I was a part of was particularly vehement, really a cesspool of hypocrisy and judgment. All I'm saying is that my understanding of the definition of a cult is that they'll do whatever they are told. I certainly did. We see that they're no longer allowed to do outside study. They are looking to insulate themselves even furthur and we are their enemies. But what IF. Just a thought...

Think: Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, etc. Is it so far-fetched to think that, instead of sucide, they might commit homicide?

A Watchtower Approved Christmas Song:
by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit income let us ignore him

In 2nd grade, we were supposed to copy the words to a Christmas song, and myself and another JW classmate refused. The teacher allowed us to change the words to: Glad tidings of the Kingdom...
Imagine that! 7 years old and I already felt guilty. At this point, I had been in the TMS for 2 years!
Let's not even talk about all the times I had to sit out in the hallway for birthday parties...

For a long time I thought I'd have a problem wearing a cross. When I visited Bogota, Colombia, full of churches and tiny stores selling religious artifacts, I purchased a really beautiful rosary for my brother's Irish Catholic girlfriend. I also visited some amazing churches and, although I'm not currently practicing any religion, I found some solace in them. After we got back, I started wearing my husband's silver rosary as a fashion accessory, sometimes even wishing that I'd run into my old Witness "friends" while I have it on!

Were You Surprised That Your JW "Friends" Dumped You After All These Years?
by minimus inhow does it feel knowing that your friends were so conditional----or your family?

After 6 years, I still have dreams about my old friends and I'll wake up feeling really sad. It's not that I miss THEM, really, but I miss having friends, period. Being abandoned by so many so quickly left me without a single friend from my childhood. When coworkers talk about friends from elementary school, I have none to mention: I rejected all of my wordly classmates and my witness friends rejected me. I sometimes see them on the street, and, although I know they'll never speak to me, I sometimes wish they would, so that I can let them know I'm not the bad person they assume me to be. Am I being too sentimental?

Anyone here from New York, NY?
by NYer Girl ini'd love to know if any of the witnesses i grew up with in the city have found their way out.
i knew so many people growing up and i have no connections to my past now that i've been out for six years.
my husband has friends he has known for 20 years or longer and it makes me sad that my friends abandoned me the moment i started to show doubts.

$2 now to ride the subway, and they're thinking of making it $3. Unbelievable!

If you grew up in New York City and were born around 1980, might we have been friends?

Former or Current Elders, MS, Pioneers.......Did you enjoy these positions?
by R.F. indid you ever enjoy serving in this way or did you view it more as, "it's the thing that's encouraged, so that's what i'll do"?.
im currently a ms and pioneer(will shed this one immediately) and before i ever were appointed these, i always wanted to.
i thought it was a pretty cool thing for someone my age to be instructing the congo, and to have so many look up to you.

I enjoyed the status that came with becoming a pioneer at 17--I even planned it that way so that people would notice how "holy" I was, sacrificing my job for pioneering (my family badly needed the money, but the truth was always more important). Then, as soon as I suffered a setback, all of my pioneer friends abandoned me and I was left alone. In the end, it was all for the best, but remembering the announcement still stings, 'She will no longer serve as a reguglar pioneer, she cannot comment or participate in the TMS..."
